Obadiah 1:2-4 NASB
2 “Behold, I will make you small among the nations;
You are greatly despised.
3 “The arrogance of your heart has deceived you,
You who live in the clefts of the rock,
In the loftiness of your dwelling place,
Who say in your heart,
‘Who will bring me down to earth?’
4 “Though you build high like the eagle,
Though you set your nest among the stars,
From there I will bring you down,” declares the Lord.
It is pride that makes you believe that we are invulnerable and to place our trust in anything or anyone (including ourselves) other than our almighty God. Your pride causes you to become spiritually blind. To prevent pride from entering in and causing you to worship and exalt “self,” be careful to lift up God and to glorify Him for the security and success you experience. Ask Him to reveal to you any areas in which your heart may be deceived because of pride.
It is impossible to live a kingdom filled spiritual life in our own strength, and yet the pride of our heart so often deceives us into trying to do just that. God, however, will find a way to humble us anytime we try to exalt ourselves in this way.
